This course has been running for many years and continues to be popular amongst counsellors doing one to work and wanting to upskill into the specialism of couples work . We have found that the smaller groups are the most effective and we are now limiting the numbers to six students. Therefore it is advisable to book on the course as soon as possible. If you are too late then you will be placed on the waiting list and if numbers are sufficient we will facilitate an extra course between Spring and Autumn.

Families

” I describe family virtues as responsibility towards others, increase of tolerance, compromise, support, flexibility and essentially the things I call the silent song of life – the continuous process of mutual accomodation without which life is impossible”.    Salvador Minuchin

The family is a complex structure which is constantly changing and not always for the best. Disruptions, disagreements, misunderstandings can be triggered by anything and anyone.

The benefit of Family Therapy is that it addresses psychological, behavioural and emotional issues that together or in isolation can cause problems.

Our role as Therapists is to observe the family dynamic and create a relationship within  the family to help them move forward in a healthier way for all.

Supervision & Staff Support

SUPPORTING GOOD, SAFE PRACTICE

“Regular and ongoing supervision is a distinctive requirement of the counselling professions. Supervision is essential to how practitioners sustain good practice throughout their working lives.”  BACP

Geoff Miles and Helen Payne-Kumar are registered members of the BACP and offer supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists and related mental health professionals.

It is essential to have regular supervision sessions to enjoy a secure frame for thinking and exploration of your therapeutic work.  Finding the right supervisor to suit your needs, client-base, methods of working and professional development  is crucial for any successful working relationship.  Contact us to discuss your individual requirements.

Couples Counselling

Relationship or couples counselling can be necessary to help develop better communication skills, resolve conflict and create healthy, more flexible boundaries. Most couples are driven to therapy because of a crisis, a breakdown in communication or repetitive/unhealthy conflict often questioning if they are with the right partner.  But in truth, all intimate relationships need ongoing attention to learn about yourself and your partner and to develop the skills needed to live in a close committed relationship.

The aim of Couples therapy is to help repair old behaviour patterns and create space for renewed healthy and rewarding connections.  This can be done through:

Understanding what is causing you to drift apart.

Understanding how family values, religion, country of origin and philosophy of life affect your relationship.

Reflect on how the past operates in the present.

Explore how arguments and rows seem to escalate in the same way each time.

Receive emotional support through what is inevitably a painful process, if you decide to separate or divorce.

Children & Adolescents

A Comfortable & Safe Environment for  You & Your Child

All children (8+) and young people sessions are approached with sensitivity and take place in a non-threatening environment, here in our therapy rooms in Pewsey.

We initially have a no obligation meeting with parent/guardian to discuss their childs counselling needs and how potentially we can move forward.

Quietly and reassuringly, we work with the child to bring a gentle yet effective resolution to possible issues, concerns or problems that the child is experiencing.

Some of the presenting issues that children may experience are:

  • Authority Issues
  • ADHD & Autism
  • Behavioural Difficulties
  • Exam Stress
  • Sleep Pattern Problems & Nightmares
  • Anger Management
  • Phobias
  • Stress-Associated Bedwetting
  • Eating Disorders
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Depression
  • Bereavement
  • Abuse Related Issues

We are able to provide reports for Court and  written assessment of cases where legally required. Correct protocols are adhered to.

Both Geoff and Helen are enhanced DBS checked.
